How did Gifts of Life begin?

Fields of Life has been involved with agricultural projects in Uganda since 1995, when a 110 acre farm was established where animal and crop husbandry was practiced. As useful as the farm was, Ruth and Trevor Stevenson realised that for the majority of people in Uganda, a project of this sort is only a dream.  The question therefore was, "How do we help people in the village to help themselves?"  As Ruth and Trevor could not go out and buy land for each family, they felt that  it would help the community to assist with income generating projects.

Uganda depends so much on agriculture and most people living in the rural areas have some land. Helping the people in rural areas purchase livestock, fruit trees and seeds is an enormous benefit. Since not everyone would want an income generating gift that was agriculturally based, Fields of Life decided to include other items, like sewing machines, as well as the agricultural gifts in the Gifts of Life items.

The gifts will enable families to boost their incomes thus affording the basics of food, clothing and educating their children. The prices of the gifts are listed in the ‘Gift Shop' and start from as little as £2/€3/AU$6

Postal or E-cards

Our supporters thoughtfully contributed over €30,000/26,000 in farm animals, mosquito nets, pencil cases, sewing machines, and various other items over the 2008 Christmas season.  However, the Gifts of Life programme needs your support during the rest of the year. To entice those e-card senders amongst you, we have added to the original designs and choice of occasion so that you may send a Gift of Life e-card at any time of the year and for any occasion.

Why not purchase online in our Gifts of Life Shop? All you need is the recipient's e-mail address and your fingers to express your congratulations, excitement, and affection while benefitting an East African family at the same time.  So why not help a Ugandan family today by purchasing a Gift of Life for your family, friends and loved ones, whether it be a present for birthday, Easter, or just to make an incredible difference to the families that receive the gift by helping them to help themselves.
